  • Deborah Alexander - CEO and Compliance Project Manager

    President and Compliance Project Manager

    Deborah M. Alexander, CHC, CHPC, PMP, DPT, MED., ATC, PT, CSCS, has been a physical therapist for over 29 years, graduating from Thomas Jefferson University and later receiving her Masters of Education and Sports Medicine from Temple University, and then a Doctorate in PT from Simmons College. Most recently, Deb attended Penn State University for Project Management, receiving the certification of Project Management Professional (PMP) and obtained her Certification in Healthcare Compliance.

    As a highly trained and credentialed therapist, Deb has experiences in Private Practice, Skilled Nursing, Home Care, as well as rehab management within Critical Access Hospitals. Some of Deb’s areas of expertise include:

    • Compliance Auditing and Monitoring with a particular strength in trending reports within an EMR documentation system.
    • SNF Compliance in regards to overall facility compliance, MDS submission, PPS, rehabilitation documentation, MPPR, manual medical reviews, PEPPER report risk analysis, Functional Limitation G Code reporting, ICD-9 Coding selection based on discipline specific diagnoses, and ADR pre & post-payment probe responses.
    • Denials Management and tracking while providing required compliance training based on identified risks.
    • Providing compliance guidance for rehabilitation and respiratory health services in all settings.

    When not at work Deb enjoys running, trail running, participating in “mud runs”, gardening, and time with family. Deb has completed a Tough Mudder, Half-Marathon and Mini-Triathlon in the past 5 years.

  • Tom Ambury - Vice President of Compliance

    Tom Ambury


    Tom Ambury, a graduate of Ithaca College, has been a physical therapist for over 25 years. His extensive experiences as a therapist, which includes hospital based care, Rehab Management for a Critical Access Hospital, Home Health, Skilled Nursing, and Private Practice, makes Tom an invaluable resource for equipping and enabling therapists and healthcare professionals to be confidently compliant.

    Since 2011, when Tom joined the PTCG team, he has been helping therapists and various healthcare professionals navigate the ever-changing, and all-too-often utterly complex, world of compliance. As a credentialed healthcare compliance professional, Tom applies his expertise towards the creation and successful utilization of compliance products such as Compliance in a Box® and ChartSafe®.

    Tom is a renowned consultant that applies his skills purposefully and collaboratively. As a compliance specialist, Tom frequently presents for the PPS/APTA and CPTA, as well as through PTCG’s webinar series.

    When not working, Tom enjoys his time at home with his wife, Becky, and likes to hike with his two dogs, Virginia and Bentley.

  • Laurie Hinds


    Received a Bachelor of Health Science degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida in 1983. She has been board certified for 30+ years with clinical experience in a variety of settings (acute care, day treatment, community re-entry, out-patient, home health and skilled nursing facilities). She is certified in Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT) for adults.   In 2011, she decided to use her clinical expertise skills as a medical review specialist. She has conducted manual medical reviews for pre and post payment audits by RACs and MACs, reviews of rehabilitation documentation for medical necessity, reviews of MDSs for accuracy and reviews for ICD-9 coding. She has done on-site visits for training to improve documentation. She has developed a webinar and a one day course on the Medicare audits and appeal process. She is detail oriented in her reviews and has a strong knowledge base of Medicare documentation requirements. She has handled denials for Part A and Part B Medicare claims and Medicare Advantage claims through the redetermination, reconsideration and Administrative Law Judge levels of appeal. She has a 91% success rate for partial or fully favorable appeals of those claims she determines have grounds for appeals. Due to the ever changing health care reimbursement landscape, she has made it her mission to stay abreast of the changes and educate therapists to minimize denials of the medically necessary treatment provided.

    During her free time she enjoys being an empty nester with her husband, Warren. They attend University of Florida football games as alumni and parents of alumni (all 3 of her children attended UF). She is proud of her children’s accomplishments and is eager to see what the future holds for them. One is a pharmacist, another is in medical school and the third is majoring in sports management/marketing. She enjoys walking, working out, shopping and playing mah jongg.

    Ashley Popovich is a graduate from Wilkes University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree. As an experienced administrative professional, Ashley brightens the office with her exceptional operational, organizational, and task management skills.

    Her dedicated management of the day-to-day operations of PTCG grants her the ability to address any questions regarding PTCG’s products or services. Her friendly and professional demeanor will make you glad that you contacted her.

    Besides the enjoyment Ashley receives from creating sustainable operations, she finds joy in traveling, reading, fantasy football, and most importantly, spending time with her family.
